Welcome to June!  Hard to believe that we are weeks away from the end of the year. I am so proud of how hard students have worked in Grade 1.  It will be hard to say goodbye.
PARENT HELPERS: Parents are encouraged to drive to the Wildlife park.  Parents who bring preschoolers may have to pay for their child.  Remember you will be assigned students...this will be set up before the trip.  I would like to have at least 6 or 7 parent volunteers...if we have more that is okay!  If parents are interested in car pooling up to the park...please let me know and I can pass the information to other parents.  Please remember the due date of permission forms is at the end of the week.  This week we are having new sight words and in math we will continue to work on our equations.

Wildlife Field Trip-Information
On Monday, June 15th, we will be going to the Wildlife park by bus with 3 other classes.  Please note that the field trip will be a full day (8:30-2:30) trip.  We will be walking, and exploring the animals in their environment so please have FOOD: Please provide your child with a large healthy snack, A LUNCH AND A
BOTTLE OF WATER
for that day. All of these items should be in a backpack that your child will carry throughout the day.  BACKPACKS: Please remember that your child will be carrying his/her backpack all day. Try to pack as lightly as possible (sandwiches are much easier to carry than apples and oranges).

CLOTHING: Also, I am asking parents to ensure that their child is appropriately
dressed for this field trip, including running shoes, hat, no dresses/skirts,
pants (to protect legs from scratches), and a coat/pullover.  We are going rain or shine, so please consider the weather that morning when your child is getting dressed. Please apply and send extra sunscreen (small bottle).

Our Week:
Monday, June 1-New sight words & Return library books
Tuesday, June 2-Library & Gym day
Wednesday, June 3-Gym  & Music day
Thursday, June 4-Gym and Music day
Friday, June 5-Fine Arts & Permission forms due

As always you can contact me at ahaliwal@sd73.bc.ca

We are quickly approaching our last month of Grade 1. Where has time gone? Please continue to practice sight words daily.  Over the next 2/3 weeks, I will be testing students and writing report cards.  It is essential that we continue to progress through Grade 1 materials.  Thanks for your help.  We have been practicing our addition and subtraction to 10.  Your child may benefit from some extra practice at home.Library books are due Monday or Tuesday morning.

I hope everyone had a nice Victoria Day weekend.  This week will be another short week however we are having new sight words and home reading will begin on Tuesday.  Our class is lucky to have two presentations one will be on Tuesday morning (Eureka is a science focused presentation).  The second presentation is about seedlings and this will take place on Thursday morning.

Important Information about Year-end Field Trip
I have send out permission forms for the full day field trip to the Wildlife Park on June 15th...cost of the field trip is $12.00.  Please make sure your child has the payment with the permission forms (a baggie is great).  I do need parent volunteers so if you can come out and support the field trip that would be great!  Write on the permission form that you can volunteer!

This week:
Monday, May 18-No School (Victoria Day)
Tuesday, May 19-Eureka presentation & Gym day
Wednesday, May 20-Gym & Music day
Thursday, May 21-Seedling presentation & Music day
Friday, May 22- Fine Arts

Let's have a great week!
