I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed some outdoor time with your family...it was certainly nice to see the sunshine!  The weather is getting somewhat warmer but students must be dressed for any conditions during the week so please make sure your child has proper clothing to keep warm.  
     This will be a week with a number of things happening firstly we will have a recognition assembly on Tuesday...on Wednesday morning we will begin our Cardboard projects (thank you to parents who will come in and help out so far we have 2 helpers...if you would like to come for the morning please let me know the more parents the better!).  On Thursday if we need more time to complete our cardboard projects we will do this in the am.  On Friday we will have our first skating field trip...and yes we do need parent volunteers to tie skates....if your going on the ice you need skates and a helmet!  In the afternoon we will have a gallery walk throughout the school to check out other projects.
     We will be having Spelling Unit 13 this week  and we are working on elements in Fairy Tale stories.  In Math, we had will continue with multiplying and keep practicing our regrouping and borrowing with 3 digit numbers.  Social Studies we have started our partner projects so we will keep rolling along with that and Science we are learning about  ecosystems...it is a very congested week to say the least!
Reminder that students need proper running shoes for Gym class!

The collection of cardboard has been very good so we no longer need cardboard but we do need items such as: duct tape, packing tape, any foil materials, and tools that can cut the cardboard (this would have to come with a parent volunteer).  I don't want students to be cutting materials by themselves!  At this point I don't have any parent volunteers so if your able to help out please let me know as soon as possible.
This week students will receive Spelling unit 12....and they will be working on guided reading work.  In Math, we will have quiz on work that we have already covered...adding & subtracting with regrouping and borrowing.  Please continue working with your child with skip counting! 
In Science we are continuing with the ecosystem unit.  In Social Studies we have started looking at the group project on First Nation groups.
P.E. we are working on our basketball skills...please ensure your child has their running shoes at school for P.E. also be aware that girls would be comfortable in sweat pants rather than a dress!

This week will be a short week with the Professional Development Day on Friday but students will be doing the spelling unit 11.  The homework should be going home on Monday with the agenda books so please have a look and make sure your child has written down information in the agenda books and have their homework.  In Language we are continuing to develop our writing skills.  In Math we are working on the early stages of multiplication concepts.  Social Studies we are still learning about First Nations cultures and how they compare with our own.  Science  will be about the ecosystems and how living and non-living need each other....so much to do!
In P.E. students do need running shoes in the gym...please make sure your child has their running shoes for P.E.

Remember: Permission slips for skating should be returned as soon as possible with a fee of $6:00 to cover the cost of the bus for the field trip.  Please add if your able to help out with tying skates or volunteering on the ice.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  This week we will have new spelling unit #10.  In math we will continue with learning about multiplying numbers and working with graphs.  In Science we are beginning our new unit on ecosystems... and in Social Studies we are continuing about cultures including First Nations.  Language Arts we will contnue from last week with our writing skills development and Guided Reading.
I would like students to wear indoor shoes at school and boots out at the breaks.  Please make sure your son/daughter are wearing appropriate clothing for the weather!
We are collecting cardboard for our cardboard project...we need a lot of cardboard so if you have any please bring it to the classroom! Also, I have asked for more kleenex boxes as we are getting low and it is cold season...please send 1 box with your child.
