In Class this Week...
☼ During reading/phonics, we are focusing on the letter "s" and the sound it makes. Students will be looking at words that start with "s," printing "s" and reading a book that blends "s," "a" and "t." To blend words, have your child tap his/her finger under each letter in the word and say each sound, and then slide the finger under the whole word, left to right, "zipping" or blending the sounds together to form the word.
☼ In math, we are learning about equals and addition. We will start doing simple addition equations to 5.
☼ Our first group of sight reading words come home this week and they are I, am, like, a. Please practice PRINTING and READING these words every day this week.
Sight Words Folders
Your child is coming home with a Sight Word Folder today. This folder should be kept at home and is part of our DAILY homework. The daily Sight Words homework:
1. Your child needs to cut out the weekly words, and put them in the 1st pocket of the folder (New Words). New words need to be printed out at least once a day. As your child prints the letters, he/she should say each letter. Then your child should read the word.
2. When new words arrive, move last week’s words to the 2nd pocket (Words I am Practicing). These words need to be read/reviewed daily. When your child can quickly (in the snap of your fingers) read a word three days in a row, that word can move to the 3rd folder.
3. Continue to review the sight words in the 3rd folder (Sight Words I Know) for confidence builders and for speed. These words can also be copied onto paper and laid out to make sentences.
Sight Words are an important part of beginning to read, as speed and fluency help with the understanding and enjoyment of what is being read. Many sight words cannot be sounded out. Please ensure that this daily practice becomes part of your family’s daily routine. Every day that your child forgets to practice is another day that he/she may fall behind the class.

We have students with a wide variety of severe allergies in our classroom this year, including a SEVERE PEANUT ALLERGY. Please do not have any peanut products in lunches/snacks. THANK YOU!
