March 30th to April 3rd-picking up your child's school supplies and items in the orange folder...please take items from the orange folder and leave the folder behind.
I will be using the blog on the Arthur Stevenson website so you can follow along week to week.
A schedule to have Zoom online meetings each week is being finalized. I can only accommodate 4-8 students at a time through Zoom. Your child’s specific day could be on one of these days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Once you receive the schedule and if the scheduled day assigned to your child doesn’t work for you, we can set up a different day (email me which days work for you).
I will also schedule phone calls to connect with students.
This week I am giving you a guide of what students could be doing on their own. Also, please check out the Arthur Stevenson’ s website as there could be links for math practice. (Don’t forget to check out the “D-News” blog if you need to refer back to what the weekly guided work is.)
Please remember you don't have to do all subjects all at once in one week! Pick any combination of subjects and do the work up to 1 hour each day! For example you can pick reading (15 minutes), Math (20 minutes), and P.E. (25 minutes) which is 60 minutes.
If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me. My email is [email protected]
Please remember students only need to do about 1 hour of school work a day!
This week:
Monday, March 30-April 3
Language Arts,
Journal writing-Topic- “What would you do if you were in the middle of the lake and your boat springs a leak? ”
Criteria:
Students can write 4-6 sentences and include drawing a picture of what they wrote...also include the date. Take a picture of their work and sent it to me through via email.
(Each Week the Journal topic will be changed). I have a journal checklist in the orange folder that you can use as a guide.
Math-Please have students work on the last booklet in their math book. They are working on 2-D/3-D shapes.
The next math task is to know your times tables...start at the 1 times table and work your way up to the 10 times table or beyond! If you are able to mark it great! I am available to have a look at their work through Zoom meetings as well. If students have difficulties with a concept, we can discuss it through Zoom meetings, email or phone calls.
Students should only work on Math for about 20 to 30 minutes.
P.E.-do an activity that will have movement for 30 mins a day if possible.
Science-Students are to study their land form booklet. I will be handing out a quiz on landforms at a later date.
The project that students will be doing is using salt dough (a mixture of salt & all-purpose flour, and water) and recreating landforms on a (blue) plate. Unfortunately, you will have to make the salt dough and I will provide the blue plate and recipe (you have to scale it down to make a smaller amount of salt dough). The project will need drying time after students create their landforms: it will get hard and then students can paint the project to make it as real as possible. The due date is flexible!
Handwriting booklet-we just started this - the students could work in the booklet as something fun to do.
Social Studies-We are moving towards creating family trees
Homework Project Outline
Grade 2/3
My Family Tree
- When completed you can create a short video or take a picture of your child’s presentation and send it to me through email if your child is not able to attend Zoom meetings. The students have been learning about Shuswap families and now is a great opportunity for students to discover the history of their family!
Your child’s instructions:
- This will be a fun, easy project that your whole family can get involved with!

Remember these are just ideas to get you thinking! You need to make your own.
3. You must have a Family Tree that includes you, your Mum and Dad, brothers and sisters (if you have any), both sets of grandparents and both sets of great grandparents. You must also include their full names and dates of birth (if you can) on the Family Tree. Include all the family members you are able to.
4. Your Family Tree is unique to YOU, so be creative in the way you present it!
When we have a Zoom meeting, you can present your family tree! Presentation day could start after May 30th.
This is also flexible due date.
