Well this week is "Literacy week" and students will be reading everyday. We have an anacronym called "DEAR"...drop everything and read. There will be a day when students are to dress up as a character most likely Friday!
I know this is a week away but we do have skating on January 31th...leaving the school at 12:45 hopefully we can get the skates/helmuts/ in either the Friday before the Monday (or Monday morning). I don't want to leave anyone in a panic...on the day!! If you would like to volunteer please come and see me.
If students need skates I know we have skates here but I am not sure if we would have the right size for your child. As there was a clean up and there were some skates tossed out because they were "well used."
This week we have Unit 15 spelling words...please check and make sure your son/daughter are bringing the spelling work back for points and I am checking to see they are on task. Our class will be participating in the school wide Never ending story...we will write a part to contribute to the story on Thursday. The story will be read over the intercom next wee

Wednesday, Jan23-French with Ms. Brokovich
Thursday, Jan24-Fine Arts & never ending story

As we continue to steamroll through January it seems as though winter is making an appearance. We've had some colder weather and some snow here and there but.......February is coming fast! This week there is a forecast for a couple of really cold days and snowfall (I think Monday and Wednesday...BOOTS and Indoor shoes!).
In Science we will wrapping up one unit and starting Force and Motion unit later in the week. Math will see us continue working in the Jumpmath booklet (subtraction).
In Language Arts we will continue with the Fairy Tales unit...maybe I will stop writing about this until we start a new unit...new sight words will be out Monday as well as Home Reading will continue. You probably saw the permission slip for skating...dates changed so I need you to sign and return as soon as possible.

We are starting a unit in Language Arts that involves stories from Fairy Tales. Students will learn about different parts of the story for example: the setting, plot, and characters. In math we are continuing with subtraction and we will also review addition.
In Science we will continue with habitat of animals...in Social Studies we are learning about "Communication" through body language. In P.E. we will continue playing games that require "team-work" and build individual fitness and skills.
This week will also see us going to the Sagebrush for Young People's Concert (YPC). We are going skating on January 30th, I have sent out the permission notices which are due back January 12th. Please note that I did not include snowpants in the notice so if your child can bring snowpants for skating that would be great...again if any parents would like to help out, please check the box on the permission slip. I do need one parent to drive the skates & helmets and bags to the arena. There are a few skates at the school however, we will have to search for the right size for students who don't have skates. I still have a few students who do not have running shoes for P.E. please ensure that students have indoor shoes.
Activities for this week:
Monday, Jan. 9 - P.E. (running shoes needed!)
Tuesday, Jan. 10 - P.E.
Wednesday, Jan. 11 - Return library books
Thursday, Jan. 12 - Library day and going to YPC
Friday, Jan. 13 - Fine Arts with Ms. Gartrell Add Comment January 3-6 01/01/2012

Welcome to 2012!
I hope everyone had a great break and enjoyed their time with family and friends over the winter break. Although its nice to have time to relax we must now get back into our routines and schedules... so this week we will begin with new sight words and continue with our Home reading program.
In math we will continue to develop an understanding of the "subtraction" concept as well as counting by 2's, 5's, 10's and counting backwards from 100. In Science we will be learning about animals' needs such as shelter and food. Social Studies our "responsibilities" will continue...If you have any questions or concerns about your child progress please either e-mail me([email protected]) or phone the school and we can arrange a time to meet.
